depression

does anybody ever get depressed when Schroder plays those sad songs on his piano and Snoopy cries? I do and the last time I saw it (which was probably my Freshman or Sophomore year in high school) I got depressed. I quit watching this movie because of that scene.

I think the look on Charlie Brown's face when Lucy tells him he wasn't supposed to be invited to the party is a heckuva lot more depressing. At least, until we actually see him at the party. Until they ask him to be a model anyway.

I know what you mean. When I saw the show the first time it aired, I remember my mother sort of saying " awww..." when Snoopy was moved to tears by the sentimental World War One songs. I think what it's meant to show is that Snoopy is so involved in his role playing of the WWI flying ace, that getting choked up at sad tunes from that war are part of his whole character.

It's strange, though, that it didn't bother me as a kid, but now when I see that part, I actually feel kind of bad for him.

And when he crossed the bridge, the phantoms came to meet him

That scene is hilarious because snoopy sounds like my dog when he's in the car.

of course, before i was more familair with the special, I always mixed up that scene with the one from "Snoopy Come Home", when schroder is playing the exact same song at Snoopy's going away party (fittingly placed on the Nostalgia Critic's top 11 saddest nostalgic moments)

Don't look into the Death Star, or you will die.

I never felt depressed watching that part of the show. The only reason why Snoopy cried is because he was still the World War I Flying Ace, and hearing those old songs made him misty. Don't read too much into your own life over it, kid!

The New York Rangers suck. And Sidney Crosby is a cry baby!

You mean BORED? Snoopy is the most boring character, as he's not grounded in reality, so 'anything goes', and that's boring in the long run.

The Snoopy-sections could've been cut out without losing anything, especially of substance. He doesn't go trick-or-treating, he doesn't really help the party, he just does his 'war-schtick' for WAY, way too long, and the stupid crying crap is one part of it.

The whole point of the section, I suppose, is to show how easily people are manipulated and their emotions swayed by simple things like music, and corporations and moviemakers brutally exploit this fact, and the unwashed masses stupidly fall for it every time. Movie tells you to cry, and you cry. Movie tells you to laugh, you laugh. Movie tells you to feel angry, you feel angry. It's so manipulative, and yet people don't know how to resist these simple manipulation tactics.

I think it's supposed to be 'funny' at the same time, as no one would react so deeply and drastically to a simple music change, unless they're some kind of an emotional idiot or women, but it just doesn't work, as it drags on for too long, and the songs are boring war propaganda crap anyway.

Your POST depresses me, as it reminds me what kind of people live on this crappy planet, and how people never see the big picture, and let even a cartoon manipulate themselves emotionally, groan.

It also depresses me, because I thought you were going to talk about the ACTUAL depression that is expressed in Charlie Brown. Schultz was depressed, and you can tell, but you are just happily talking about trivial joke instead of the real issues.

There IS real depression in the world, you know, but you rather give your emotions to a joke about emotional manipulation that's not SUPPOSED to make you feel emotions other than mild amusement and perhaps anger at how people are constantly manipulated.

You have earned yourself a golfclap.
