An Original, in an Era where...

...everything else seems to be a parody.

It really is remarkable that all the animated TV shows (save the first seven years or so of "The Simpsons") rely so much of parody of other television shows and movies.

Even after 45 years, "...Great Pumpkin" comes off like a breath of fresh air to was away all the cynicism and vulgarity in modern entertainment.

Mind you, I'm no prude. But if cynicism and vulgarity is all Hollywood has to offer, then I'll continue to bypass today's TV, for yesterday's.

Very true...I can't think of many Halloween or holiday specials from today. But the Shrek ones, for instance, really rely on a lot of crude and pop culture parody as you said. Eventually those pop culture references will really date the specials and they will not last in the way the Charlie Brown ones have.
