Did anyone ever wait for the Great Pumpkin as a kid?

I wanted to but sadly my neighborhood didn't have a pumpkin patch.

I've debunked those frauds and shysters like Santa Claus [Alias Kris Kringle], The Easter Bunny and the Leprechaun, but there's still a part of me that feels somewhat unfulfilled for never truly putting to bed this Great Pumpkin myth once and for all.

No, but I think some parents use The Great Pumpkin now as the creature who comes in the night and takes all the "extra" candy and leaves a little toy behind. That way their children aren't eating all kinds of junk for weeks they really don't like anyway, just their favorites. I might try that when our son starts eating more candy. Even I ate way too much candy corn today, and I don't even like candy corn!!!

No, and I'm not sure I'd want to for this reason. According to Linus in a strip, he chastises Peppermint Patty for asking the Great Pumpkin to bring her a new baseball glove. He says you have to wait for whatever it is he brings you. That's not good because what if it is something you don't want? Unless he is a *beep* mindreader, in which case, he should be working in the circus somewhere.

I was always very uncomfortable with the idea of a Great Pumpkin. Halloween doesn't need to be like Christmas. In my opinion, it already far surpasses it.

While I like this movie, my problem with the concept of the Great Pumpkin is Linus himself. Charles Schultz has always presented his characters as real people you could relate to with strong Christian overtones. Somehow, I find it weird Schultz presented Linus as a Bible quoting kid in one movie (The Christmas movie) and a pagan-believing kid in this one. I guess in some ways we can all relate, since we ourselves celebrate all the major holidays that seem to contradict each other (like Halloween and Christmas), but I still feel a little uneasy for some reason...

The Great Pumpkin is Linus' one Achilles tendon. We're never told where Linus first heard about it, but we do know it cost him an election lol

I used wait for The Great Pumpkin to be shown on TV when I was a kid. Actually, it's more like I couldn't wait for them to show it, but it was always a treat.
