This movie portrays the locals as incompetent yahoos that require outside supervision. The aliens arrive to sheperd the natives to safety. Even the island's doctor is treated like something that fell out of a tree. The missionaries meet the hottentots.
shareI must disagree. Campbell and the other islanders are shown as practical-minded just not scientifically inclined. It makes sense for the experts to lead in a situation involving monsters borne from an experiment gone wrong.

The scared little heiress put in charge of all the islanders at the community center? Really? Thought that was ridiculous, in a hilarious way.
shareOkay, that, I agree, was dumb. And in fact why they didn't stick her back on the chopper upon landing is beyond me... she contributed pretty much nothing to their investigation and subsequent efforts to kill the Silicates.
