One of Peter Cushings best movies?

After seeing Peter in Van Helsing mode in Hammer Horrors for so many years it was great to see One of the few movies where he is not chasing Vampires. I love this movie, i remember seeing it back when i was a kid, and it left a long term impression on me ( i'm now a 40 something) and the creepy ending that could have led to a sequel..?

so do you think this was one of peters' best "overlooked" movies/performances ..?

reply

I think this one and 'Corruption' are his two most underrated movies.

I really thought this movie was far out. I first saw it when I was maybey 7 or 8. Back in the early 80s on Thriller Double Feature. It was pretty scary for me then. It made a heavy impression 'cause I still remeber thinking it was pretty horrific. Unfortunatly I haven't seen it since those days of youth. I remeber Peter Cushing being in it and I probably seen that movie tree tiem sover acouple of years. I would say my top 3 favorite Cushing horror movies are

Horror Express
Horror of Dracula
and of course Island of Terrors

7/10

I saw this movie about 1973 or so when it aired on The After Midnight Show in Okla. City...I had never been so 'creeped out' by any movie up to that time especially the sucking sounds of the monsters eaten a victim, I think this is Peter Cushing's best, he is both humorous and intelligent...ISLAND OF TERROR rocks...8/10. We need a DVD of this in wide screen and HD. BTW it looked great on UNIVERSAL HD Channel.

He appeared in numerous creature features, no doubt, but most were not vampire flicks. He was very good in IOT. :>)

I think this is one of his best movies. A refreshing change from vampires etc. as someone above pointed out.

And then there's Hound of the Baskervilles and a little film called Star Wars.

reply

Seriously. I wasn't into scary movies when I was younger... my younger brother would watch them, but they gave me nightmares. Star Wars was when I first remember seeing Cushing and that was when it first came out.
