Audrey does something bizarre in this movie

*spoilers*

During a scene where she tells "Papa" that a burglur entered the house, Papa, in total shock at the words, spits into his champange glass with a clumsly "PFFTTFF!!" sound.

Well, if you watch the scene closely, he hands her that drink and Audrey is about to drink it (I assume she is not quite there at the moment, smitten by the vision of O'Toole) but Papa stops her.

But then she does finally drink the very same glass of champagne/wine that her Papa SPIT in!

I take it back. It's not bizarre. It's downright disgusting.

He took it out himself, remember? It had grazed him and lodged in his shirt or jacket - and he pulls it out while sitting there.

i think the spitting it bak in the glass bit was shot at a differnt time then added in cos it looks a bit differnt to the rest of the scene.

I slowed the movie down after reading your comment. I believe that there is a film splice at that point. The camera is close in to Nicole and Papa and then the camera moves away from them and that is when Nicole drinks from Papa's glass. The glass easily could have been exchanged for another at the splice point.

Yeah they would have shot taht close up separatly the they would have shot the second bit later on so she wouldn't have been drinking the glass with spit in it. Of course watching it in the film together it looks disgusting.

ha, i just noticed this very thing this morning watching it.. i kept thinking "DON'T DRINK IT!", but she did not hear me.

I think he spit his into his glass, and handed her a separate glass he had poured for her.

It does look disgusting but when she drinks it it's obviously a completely different take and the amount in the glass has changed. I just hope they gave her a fresh glass to drink from.
