Very interesting history to the GT350H "Hertz" cars...Almost all were automatics with a slightly detuned version of the Shelby 289. More than the 271 horsepower Mustang but not as high as the possible 340 plus horsepower the Shelbys made...The 4 speed cars were a mistake said a Hertz rep in the 60's...They found out quickly that the full on horsepower version with a 4 speed were being rented and raced on the weekends...That didn't last long...The OP whose father bought one of these cars is a very lucky man...They were special not just because there were few made, not because they were fast. Because they weren't nearly as fast as one would think. Well thats not true until you compare them to a new Corvette or something along those lines..They were special because car manufactures had balls then...There weren't 40 lawyers waiting to sue each time a car got into a wreck on the street or even on the track...Mr Shelby himself went all out to have some fun at first, later struggling to finish many of these cars while hundreds sat on the dealers lots...Hertz taking the 1001 that were built made him a lot of money. Though that would have never happened had Ford not owned a great deal of Hertz at the time...ArchxStanton....sounds like a fun car...and a whole lot less expensive than the Viper....I'd rather have the Mustang and fun than the 100k Viper and the concern for losing it at the track...
