Pretty cool. im a big mustang fan and my brother and myself together have probably had about 30 total, mainly 86' to 93' models. we do have 1 69'. anyway i think they made just over 1000 of the mustang hertz rental shelbys(gt350H), mostly black and gold but like 20 blue and like 4 red. still a rare car and probably my favorite except the 69' 70' boss 429.

They actually made 1001 E Mcgraw, correct about the blue and red but you forgot green and also white. Also wondering in the remake of The war of the worlds if Tom Cruise shelby is real, probally not.

i doubt it,but could be. cruise also drove that green BULLIT mustang(similar at least) in vanilla sky. the ferrari in that dream at the start(vanilla sky) is pretty awesome as well.

Great call, saw that movie but completely forgot that he drove a mustang in that movie! And I am a mustang lover.

What you kids fail to realize is that that Mustang was in reality rented from HERTZ! Look up your history (I don't need to 'cause I was there). Hertz actually rented Shelby 350's with automatics, all painted BRG!
This didn't last long when they were returned to the rental location in less than stellar shape! Why? Guys would rent them on weekends and throw them around race tracks and often break them!
I imagine those Hertz auto models are worth a bundle today!

hey vawlkee 2000 you don't what your talking about, you need to read the original post. They actually made 1001 most were painted black with gold stripes because that was hertz colors, and the first 85 were 4 speeds which I have. All I have to do is open my garage door and look inside and look at the living proof that my father bought this car in the winter of 1966 and I still have it, and by the way I wish I was a kid Im 50.

Very interesting history to the GT350H "Hertz" cars...Almost all were automatics with a slightly detuned version of the Shelby 289. More than the 271 horsepower Mustang but not as high as the possible 340 plus horsepower the Shelbys made...The 4 speed cars were a mistake said a Hertz rep in the 60's...They found out quickly that the full on horsepower version with a 4 speed were being rented and raced on the weekends...That didn't last long...The OP whose father bought one of these cars is a very lucky man...They were special not just because there were few made, not because they were fast. Because they weren't nearly as fast as one would think. Well thats not true until you compare them to a new Corvette or something along those lines..They were special because car manufactures had balls then...There weren't 40 lawyers waiting to sue each time a car got into a wreck on the street or even on the track...Mr Shelby himself went all out to have some fun at first, later struggling to finish many of these cars while hundreds sat on the dealers lots...Hertz taking the 1001 that were built made him a lot of money. Though that would have never happened had Ford not owned a great deal of Hertz at the time...ArchxStanton....sounds like a fun car...and a whole lot less expensive than the Viper....I'd rather have the Mustang and fun than the 100k Viper and the concern for losing it at the track...
