THE ENDLESS BUMMER

recentley i viewed the endless summer (f.y.i which was good this isnt a bad review i loved it) but today friday april 29 2005 when i brought it to class and despite every one wanting to see it my heart sank as my favourite movie was seen as a horrible piece trash to them it hurt that only they didnt like it they decided not to give it a chance but after 15 minutes they replaced it with the tame and repitive the incredibles (im just saying that since ive been forced to watch it 4 times) that day i felt as though i was misunderstood when i told a friend of mine that no one liked a girl who had watched in that class commented "i like surf films just not old ones and not documentarys" well then what the hell is there besides that piece of crap blue crush who could anyone ever be so stupid and so pop junkied (meaning there so much of a pop culture junkie they think the film they saw is the definig film for the whole genre)so basically all they can see is blue crush(oh yeah if you want check my latter review on its info base) so in short youth has lost site of the past

Kids are always going to want something current, you can't fault them too much for that. They're being kids. There are rare exceptions (like the old Star Wars or Indiana Jones films), but otherwise kids will always prefer current stuff.

I would just like to speak up for us 'kids' that believe it or not, prefer the tunes of days gone past... im 21, what you old fogies tend to consider children, just keep in mind not all of us are spoiled pop puesdo-cultured brats... not by a long shot mister.

anyhow, this movie is a *beep* treat man!

gnarly!

Surf movies, much like surfing and surfers, are often misunderstood and under-appreciated. Some people get it, and are prepared to step into the liquid- others should just sit on the beach and STFU.

I'm sorry for you younger dude- at 46 I still enjoy this movie on a regular basis- it takes me back to a time when I could easily blow off life's responsibilities head down to Beer Can Beach (which was out local spot just south of La Selva Beach on the Monterey Bay-) paddle out and forget about everything. So let the uptights stay harwired to current pop iconism- they will always enjoy what they are fed by popular marketing- and you can stay true to the purity of quality. That way fewer people lwarn where the good stuff is!

You could try Big Wednesday, may suit your audience better.

No worries dude. This movie rocks. I think it's true. Kids will gravitate to the new stuff no matter the quality (I'm thinking not just movies, but music and you name it). This movie is slower pace and that also turns off modern kids. Compare it to a modern day commercial. This is the ADHD generation. It's hard to keep them entertained.

yeah man i'm 18 and i love this movie, the surfing is great and tha narrator bruce brown is hilarious in a 60's sense. i love that line "and like good africans, they threw rocks at them". i also really liked, and you might also like "a brokedown melody" and "shelter". paz y amor- benji

how old were these kids? ive enjoyed this movie since the first time i saw it... i think i was 9 or 10... ive always liked surfing, but i have an irrational fear of deep water and sharks, so this, for me, is the next best thing...

You just have a group of the wrong kids. There are plenty of kids out there who respect the history. I saw a bunch of them at The Who concert last week!

I saw Endless Summer II when I was in high school (26 now) and after watching that, I was more curious about the original, which I love now. Maybe younger kids would identify more with the newer one, and then develop an interest for the first one.
But we already watched surf movies in class because half the kids were surfers and the rest of us wished we were.

man, that pisses me off. that pisses me right off. blue crush sucks and i'm right there with you asking the question "what other suf movies are there beisdes documentries?" i brought in a movie last year in a public speaking class and the topic was "what is your favorite movie?" my speech was fine but during the clip of the movie (which is a comedy), all i heard were crickets, man - no laughs. i was like daaaammmnnnnn. the point is that you can't sway the pop-cultured god damned idiots who don't know a good film when it's right in front of their faces. If i was in your class i would've been right there with you - high-fiving at all the best parts in The Endless Summer!
