Why two titles?
TCM has the film listed as "The Devil's Own",but seems to have neem promoted as "The Witches"....whats up?

shareTons of British films used to get different titles when shown in America (and vicey versey). I don't know the exacts of why, but someone in power thought these different titles would attract viewers in the countries receiving the films more than the original titles would. Or it could possibly be some kind of international copywrite matter, not allowing the original titles to be used in other countries. I don't know -- I've just seen it so often I take it as a matter of course.
Hardcore horror fans are really used to this:
City of the Dead became Horror Hotel in America
Night of the Eagle became Burn, Witch, Burn in America
Night of the Demon became Curse of the Demon in America
and the list goes on. The classic Alistair Sim version of A Christmas carol was titled Scrooge in its native Britain.
