Taking photographs of photographs give you a better resolution?

I don’t think so, but I am not an expert.

Thomas takes photos of photos to have a clearer picture?

Don't get you a better resolution from the original negative?

Am I missing something here?

reply

He's not gaining resolution, just magnification.

Yes, but I think it's debatable if you get a clearer understanding of the image by only magnifying without a better resolution.

That's evident in the screen of the PC, when you have a very small image, you don't get a better understanding by magnifying it. In my humble...

But, well it's a film... a form of theater, hence farce.

Yes, you clearly are.

The photographer is so desperate to see what's in the photograph that he tosses aside logic to get a "clearer" image of the body. But, as the movie shows, the larger he blows up the image, the less detail there is, which is why he finally decides to go back to the scene of the crime to see the body for himself. So basically, you missed the point that the movie was showing the very thing you're talking about, that you can't squeeze more detail out of a photograph than what is already there.
