The Town

I just finished watching "The Town" on MI and it was terrific! I missed the first minute or two and I thought I had missed the standard opening with the tape recorder etc. It turns out that this episode was far from standard.

I've always enjoyed MI and I wasn't too sure if I would care for this show which didn't follow the tried-and-true format. Suffice to say that it was one of the best MI's that I've ever seen.

I don't really have a question or comment. I just wanted to share my delight with folks that care. 

It's a good one--my only quibble is that Rollin brings in the rest of the team by saying that he'll call Jim's *wife*. Married men of that era wore their wedding rings, and you'd think a bunch of foreign spies who had studied American culture so thoroughly that they were able to fake a small American town so convincingly would have noticed that Jim wasn't wearing one.

That's a very good catch. I hadn't thought about that.

I think IMDb also mentions the way the MI team go about getting Jim out of there. I'm paraphrasing here but something like: "In reality, the police would have been called." I think it also says that the police involvement would have made for a poor MI episode! 

"The Town" is a fan favorite as is "The Exchange", which starts at the end of a mission but has Cinnamon being captured by the enemy. The rest of the mission has the guys working on getting her out.

I think later on there were may more of these type of episodes but these initial in the first few seasons were well written and spectacularly performed!

Love that episode. Barbara Bain gives one of the best performances of the series.

That makes no sense. Why would the police be called for a man having a stroke? In any case, it's a fun episode because Cinnamon is married to Jim and Willy is their baby. 

A man not wearing a wedding ring is not such an oddity. A woman not wearing one, that would be questioned, but not a man. I doubt they would notice, or care if they did-Jim's friend said he was married, and they're not going to say he's not married because he's not wearing a ring. After all, as foreign spies who had studied American culture so thoroughly, they would also be familiar with the custom of married men away from their wives removing their rings for...err...fun and games. 

I disagree with this, in one sense not all men back then wore wedding rings. I mean I can think of all the neighbors where I grew up and non of them had rings. My best friends father does not have a ring. I am just saying not ALL men of that era wore rings.

The Town was one of the more, shall we say, "interesting" episodes. The first time I saw this, after my jaw dropped, was to think "WTF was that?"

I don't know really if I think that if it was a good episode or not, but it certainly was an unforgettable one.

Married men, of that era, did not wear a wedding ring, plus, obviously the doctor could not take the slightest chance .
