Alarm Stone

Early on in the film one of the peasants sounds a warning concerning the Frisian raiders by blowing into a large boulder which had been adapted into some sort of horn. Every time I see that I keep thinking how fortunate it was that there was such a conveniently formed piece of stone in the area.

Does anyone know if anything similar had ever been found in reality, and was it actually somehow made (or just a fortunate result of nature)?

It had been carved into that form.

That must've been quite a trick, making the proper carvings that would allow a stone to be used as a horn. I'll have to look into the subject further as I'm now quite fascinated.

And thank you!
