Unintentional comedy

Maybe it's just me, but the scene where the enemy tries to storm the castle with this huge make-shift tower on wheels cracked me up. Maybe it was the timimg or the set-up. Heston and his crew are in the castle and they hear the sound of chopping wood and they wonder whay they're up to. And suddenly this rickety montrosity on squeaky wheels advances slowly up the road. Am I the only one who thought this was funny?

There is no "off" position on the genius switch.

Apparently the version of "The War Lord" that we see today was shot as a longer format motion picture. Mr. Heston wrote about trying to get the edits reinstated but was unable to get this done (the film was produced under his production company, I believe). The composer, Mr. Moross and/or his biographers have also written about "The War Lord" being filmed as a longer film but cut before it was released. I've never seen any reference as to what actually was removed from the release print, but perhaps the battle scenes - including this one - were edited. That's my guess.

The hilarious thing was when the reinforcements turned up and started to bombard the make-shift tower with a giant sling with boulders. Where the hell did they get that from? I don't think they brought it with them as it would have taken ages to transport and they were in a hurry to relieve the castle. So they must have constructed it at the last moment when they saw the make-shift tower being made lol. Why the hell didn't they just attack them straight away?
