Why did Blofeld have Count Lippe killed?

Sorry for the minor spoilers, but it happens very early on in the film.

I understand SPECTRE wanting to off Angelo Palazzi because Palazzi asked for more money to do the assignment than he initially agreed to. But to kill Count Lippe just for hiring Palazzi, doesn't that seem a little harsh? Lippe did a great deal of work for SPECTRE and he couldn't have known that Palazzi would ask for more money; SPECTRE took care of Palazzi anyways, so I don't see why Lippe had to be so severely punished.

I guess he was a bad judge of character, recruiting someone capable of that.

Lippe also failed to shoot Bond when 007 found Derval's body

Remember in From Russia With Love when Blofeld had Kronsteen killed, he said that SPECTRE did not tolerate failure !

reply

But Kronsteen's plan had failed, Lippe didn't fail. The man he brought in did the job, even if he got greedy.

reply

They needed Fiona to kill someone in spectacular fashion...and Lippe was the obvious choice.

The unholy triumvirate:
The Bat, the Trek, the Bond

reply

I think it was because his feud with Bond put SPECTRE on the radar, and using SPECTRE resources to settle a personal score was anathema

reply

Just as Blofeld explains. He picked a man that jeopardised the operation. Extortion is one of SPECTRE's tentacles, so the boss can't let the rest of the firm see that going against SPECTRE rules is allowed.

reply

It was Lippe who recruited Angelo, his judgement was questionable he had to go.
