FAS1 I know it's supposed to be the Big Sur area in northern California, but was it actually filmed there or on some Hollywood screen stage??? Can't seem to find the answer anywhere!!!
The story specifically takes place in Big Sur; the film includes many location shots of Big Sur landmarks, including Pfeiffer Beach, Point Lobos State Reserve, Bixby Creek Bridge, the Coast Gallery (where Laura exhibits her artwork), and a pivotal scene shot on a sound stage built to resemble the restaurant Nepenthe.[3] The German singer Nico was an extra in the Nepenthe scene. The film also features an early performance by Charles Bronson as a beatnik sculptor.
from the wikipedia article on the movie. you don't seem to have looked very hard
karma, you know, do good things, good things happen; do bad things, bad things happen?
I noticed that. She tells her son near the end,"I'll get a job and we can live in town, we won't have to live at the beach". I was thinking how things have changed since 1965, when poor people had to live on the beach, in the country. That shack would be 1.5 million now.
The location shots were well used here. Overall this was a very good film, and i was surprised by the low overall rating number coming to this film's site.
I love this film! I know it would not be everyone's cup of tea, thus the low rating does not surprise me much.
An unusual and frank romance - sooo romantic - between a married minister and a free-spirit atheist painter; the most gorgeous actress and charismatic actor of their time, and breathtaking setting. I don't even feel guilty for loving it so much.
Easy to imagine that the subject of atheism would be very taboo and controversial in 1965, as it even would be today. So ahead of its time. But the retro mid-60's feel is a big part of the charm.
