Any stories about Klaus Kinski belligerence filming this movie?

Kinski is famous for being a total asshole on the set of his films, with video footage of him acting like a complete lunatic, threatening to kill people, demanding respect etc...

I have never heard of any incidents happening on the set of FAFDM, and something tells me he was most likely well behaved when considering his fellow cast mates on this movie.

Think about it, can you imagine him getting away with his infamous behavior towards Clint Eastwood, or Van Cleef? Even Sergio Leone himself wouldn't put up with any antics from that jerk.

I would love to hear any stories though, if they exist from this movie.

This was one of his first movies and he wasn't a really a "name" at time (and he probably wasn't on drugs so badly), so I imagine his behavior was probably the best it ever was.

Jason Robards showed up to his first day of shooting drunk on "Once Upon a Time in the West" and Leone, who had to fight hard to get Robards to sign on in the first place, told him if he ever did that again, his ass was fired. And Robards sobered up for the movie. So, like you said, Leone would not have suffered Kinski's infamous behavior.

I suspect he was difficult. I've got no evidence for this other than these.

First, why would he behave on this film?

Second, there's various scenes where you don't see Indio's men in the same shot so it would've been easy for Sergio Leone to just film a few shots of him on his own and edit it afterwards. You don't even see him when they break Indio out of jail at the beginning and you should. Groggy and the others join up with Indio at the church and Hunchback is already there with Indio so why not during the jail break? That speaks volumes.
