Over and Over again

I can watch this Movie over and Over again and Never get bored with it.
What a shame Ms Hartman only got to make a few more. Non were as good as this either. Wish it had been made in colour.

Yip, she was supposed to be. Good actress though, although not a favorite of mine.

Same here!

About Shelley Winters:
I read that out of all her movie roles this one she didnt like, tho she played quite well.

It does work well after repeat viewings – unlike most films – But I have to disagree with you on the color thing. It is so perfect in B&W.

reply

Yes I agree.

I totally love this film but I admit it's not something that constantly sticks in my head. But somehow once in a while I am reminded of this little gem for some mysterious reason. It always has a special place in my heart. It is one of the few films that tug on my heartstrings in a genuine and heartfelt way.

I am so glad I found others who love this film as much as I do. A Patch of Blue is one that should be on DVD. I have also heard that Ms. Winters hated doing the part of Rosanne, because of the type of person she was, but she did an excellent job and deserved her best supporting actress Oscar. I also think Ms. Hartman deserved to win best actress for that year, because she was very real as a blind girl. I think black and white was the only way to shot this film.

I love Shelly Winters, fantastic actress, she played the bitch of a mother so well, I hated her. Sidney Poitier is one of my all time favorite actors. I love this movie and I never tire of watching it either.

I just saw this again on TCM tonight. I also can watch it over and over again. It's one of my favorite movies (if not THE favorite) and I never tire of it. Elizabeth Hartman should have won the Oscar for her role as Selina. Sidney Poitier is excellent, and so is Shelley Winters. Ms. Winters make you HATE Roseanne... you just wanna smack her!

I think you go through so many emotions watching this; happiness, sadness, hopefulness. The ending is bittersweet in that the viewer knows that Selina will now have the chance at a better life. There's also the hope that Gordon will visit Selina and give her the music box and, more important, that perhaps they will continue to see each other and possibly marry someday. It's realistic and not a true "happy ending" where everything is neatly tied up.

For me, this movie also has such a special place in my heart because actress Elizabeth Hartman herself apparently was a tortured, sensitive soul (having dealt with depression and then committing suicide in 1987). It's so sad and tragic, especially since she was such a gifted actress. She could have made many more movies. I think her performances always touch viewers in a special way.

Agreed, Shelley Winters was truly one of the all-time best (RIP). I watch this movie every time it's on as well. It's a simple and powerful film.

Yes, I just watched it on TMC and I loved it. I think this is one of those films that I can cry about but at the same time, be happy about it.
