A PATCH OF BLUE
is my all time favorite movie.
The entire cast gives the best performance. By the end of the film, I could personally strangle Shelley Winters. She is more than convincing in the part. Elizabeth Hartman also is great as the blind daughter. And don't forget Elisabeth Fraser as Winter's shady friend, one of Hollywood's gifted character actresses. I also enjoyed Fraser in four Doris Day movies: YOUNG AT HEART - THE TUNNEL OF LOVE - THE GLASS BOTTOM BOAT and THE BALLAD OF JOSIE.

Excellent performance from Elizabeth Hartman (died too young). She was also great in You're a Big Boy Now with Peter Kastner, Rip Torn, Karen Black, Julie Harris, and Geraldine Page.

In the days of old, There was an awkward way to elaborate on touchy topics; Here the Director has a great way to openly show Racism and depict the Handicapped in one moving Film.

I love Selina and in Her world, we see a Naive and Young woman who wants to reach out to People she can only feel with her Heart. She is taught different values from her Mother and grandfather who have their way of Abusing her.
Sidney Poitier is wonderful, in that His Character(Gordon) is the Shining Knight who comes to save Selina from that torture and sadness she grew up learning.

I am not a fan of tear jerker dramas, but A Patch of Blue is a good film. At times, I forget it's a movie and a work of fiction based on a book.
