Patty Duke + Hayley Mills Declined Selina Role

Someone said that on the DVD, Guy Green (director)said that his first coice for the role of Selina D'Arcy was Haley Mills, the child actress. Her people wanted too much money so she declined the role.

On IMDB's trivia section for this movie it said Patty Duke was offered this role. Her managers told her to decline. She had played a blind (Helen Keller )person in "A Miracle Worker". They didn't want her to sterotyped for future roles.

Just as well, Elizabeth Hartman owned the part. She was pitch perfect. I don't think Duke or Mills as talented as they are could have projected that naive yet trusting quality quite as well.
