Suggestion

Just finished watching this movie on DVD, when I noticed there is a Director's commentary. He wrote the screenplay as well, so he gives a lot of insight into the film, including the changes from the book (including why he changed the ending and the author's opinion about it), why he shot it in black and white, original casting ideas (Haylie Mills as Selina!) etc.

This movie has always been one of my favorites and I loved finding out more about the "behind the scenes" of it. I highly recommend it to anyone who is interested in knowing more.

I want to see the commentary!! The movie being in black and white sort of annoyed me because I got half way through before my eyes stared to hurt. WHere did you find the DVD? The book has a different ending? LOL now im all interested in the book(just not found out there was a book).

You can buy the DVD on Amazon.com. I would read the other posts about the book before I bought it though. It is VERY different from the film. I refuse to read it. :-)

Who says you have to buy the book (whose original title was Be Ready With Bells and Drums)? Check it out (and I mean that literally) from a library first!

If your local branch doesn't carry it (sometimes it can be found under the film's title), you might be able to get it through a procedure called Inter-Library Loan.

I've read the original, btw, and while I was disappointed in the ending, I was still glad I read it...but I'm also glad I saw the movie.
