When you watch this classic, which character do you like the most & why?
I like Selina. She is downtrodden and "stupid" but still portrays optimism and warmth. She really is a 'cinderella' character, (almost) always manages to stay happy despite having a horrid life.
shareI watch for Shelley Winters, Elizabeth Hartman and Sidney Poitier. They had great chemistry. The first time I ever saw Shelley Winters was on Roseanne. I was shocked, to say the least, at how great she was in this movie! Had to say the N word and everything, wow. I always wondered how hard that was for her to say. I also feel compasion for Selina and Gordon. Her for loving him and not realizing he's black and not caring after finding out, and him for loving her but not being able to show his feelings because she's white. Plus he is VERY easy on the eyes ;)

Gordon.
He gave that girl so much of his time and friendship just because he wanted to help her. He was so kind to her every day. You don't find people like him often. These days, people are too "busy" to help another human being more often than once in a while. Or they want something in return.
One could only hope to be as wonderful as Gordon.

I tended to go with Ol Pa, though I wish his character was a little more compassionate. I simply tend to favor the old timers as Wallace Ford made more movies, over more years that I can count, not to mention a childhood that was positively awful. I like seeing last films of players but that often carries a degree of sadness. In this case, Wallace Ford looked much older than he was (67)was in poor health, would lose his wife shortly after this was released and died 4 months after that. Apparently he was a nice guy and good to work with. Ford took his name from a friend who had been killed in an accident (and later got it changed legally) Now that is love and friendship in the first degree.
