I just noticed that the stilt home where Aimee Thanatogenos resides at is one of the quirky stilt homes on Oakfield Drive in Sherman Oaks, California. These same homes were featured in the Arnold Schwarzenegger film, 'The Last Action Hero'. These stilt homes were built by the modernist architect Richard J. Neutra.
If you google 'Neutra The Loved One home Sherman Oaks', you'll find that not only did they survive the Northridge earthquake perfectly well, but they are still standing, have been tastelessly remodeled/redecorated LOL, and are now quite collectible. A couple have been up for sale recently and fetched good prices.
Other stilt homes apparently did not make it through Northridge, and in fact some ordinary buildings built on alluvial Valley fill (which wibbles like jello in a quake) collapsed as well. The Neutra homes were well engineered and constructed, and built anchored to bedrock, so they held up. Apparently the 45 degree trusses are key--a 90 degree angle is less sturdy, actually, though it "looks safer". Interesting stuff. I think they're amazing houses, personally.
The unfortunate thing is that nobody seems to know exactly which house was used in the film. Those shots of Aimee on the swing...brrrr. Love the house, but I don't know if I could live in it simply because I'm scared of heights!
Just looking at satellite maps and online home sale pictures, compared to the various film shots around the house, you can tell the precise house used to film is 3847 Oakfield Dr.
