In a very loose way, yes. Elleston Trevor deposited Frank Towns and company very near the place where a B-24 Liberator Bomber crashed in World War II and lay undiscovered for 16 years. Full details are available simply by Googling "Lady Be Good B-24," but suffice it to say that these men, who crashed due to a navigational error, showed astonishing courage and fortitude in attempting to walk out of their desert hell. S-Sergeant Guy Shelley walked the furthest from the bailout point, 115 miles, which astonished desert survival specialists. This is the type of supra-human courage that Trevor was saluting when he dedicated the book to the kind of man who, "when faced with dying or doing the impossible, elects to live."
