Fans of 'Flight of the Phoenix' might want to check out an older film starring John Wayne called 'Island in the Sky.'
Similar plot, but the crash is not in the desert. Instead... the frozen wastes of Labrador.

Make sure you dress warm while watching it!

"Island in the Sky"! You really jogged a great memory for me. I must have seen that movie a million times when I was growing up in the '50s and early '60s. "It's a hole, Daddy, it's a hole!"
