The Ending is Terrible

What as Otto Preminger thinking. You have the greatest actor in the world (one who - at the time -- didn't make many films) -- and you don't have him in the film during a key scene (Cross-cutting his discovery of the truth, his race to the house, or something). What bollocks!

But what would that have accomplished? He TELLS Steven at the end that lying about which ship they arrived on gave Steven away. That's all we really needed to know.

It wouldn't have accomplished anything, but it would have ruined plenty. The fact that we don't see Newhouse until the very end draws out the sense of danger for Bunny and Ann. Seeing Newhouse on the case would have ground the suspense to a halt.

I do think the last scenes could have been handled better. I didn't buy it how Steven automatically slips into child mode when Ann drops the key phrases. But Olivier is used perfectly in the buildup and the finale.
