Idea for new version
There are two main possibilities for a new film version of Bunny Lake is Missing: a remake of the 1965 movie per se, and a version that'd be considerably different by virtue of sticking close to the 1957 novel. But what about a third possibility, namely a film in which it's not a four-year-old girl that goes missing, but an actual lake?
I can see it now: California homeowners living on the shore of Bunny Lake, an idyllic body of water with a large surrounding leporid population, awaken one morning to find the lakebed empty. It turns out that a twisted brother-and-sister team of water pirates has built an underground suction pipe, with the intention of selling the sucked-away water to corrupt agricultural interests in the drought-ridden state.
This movie could be a worthy addition to the hydro-suspense genre that includes Chinatown and Quantum of Solace.
