Why Edit?

I have loved Beach Blanket Bingo for years, mostly for the songs. Donna Loren's "It Only Hurts When I Cry" is beautiful and Annette Funicello's "I'll Never Change Him" is super.
However, when you buy BBB on DVD, Annette's song is cut.
Most DVDs have extras and special features, but BBB not only has very few added features, but it's missing one of the best songs in the movie.
AMC however, will run the complete film.
I hope one day it will be released uncut so it can be enjoyed by all!

I love 'It only hurts when I cry'. I taped BBB off tv and it has both those songs plus the ones by Sugar Cane. I doubt AMC will run the complete film, it's changed. It now has tons of commercials and edits out alot. TCM on the other hand is a great station, doesn't have commercials and doesn't edit. It's like AMC once was.

The version on the DVD is the theatrical version. Annette's song had been cut but was added back to increase the run time of the TV prints. Some of the prints I saw on TV back in the 70's also had a scene of the Rats doing a funny dance to the waltz in the nightclub.

I saw the Rat Dance too. Also, I think Buster and Bobbie Shaw danced in that scene also.

I totally agree about Annette singing "I'll Never Change Him". Several years ago, I taped BBB when it was on AMC as part of their "American Pop" series around 1998. It had that song. I just love it. By mistake, I copied over it several years later. I bought the DVD and as noted, it's not on there.

As the previous poster commented, the DVD is the theatrical version. When the song was recorded, the producers also had a version cut for the AMI movie "Ski Party". They decided to go with "I'll Never..." in "Ski Party" and cut Annette's great version out of BBB. AMC played it restored with it in. Also, as has been noted, AMC has nothing but commercials and butchered movies now, so the hope would be to see it on TCM (doubtful) or something similar. I hope they do, because I truly need to get a copy of the entire movie with Annette's song. Thanks, Glenn

What's your point? To be obnoxious?

Here's the story on why some of you see the song on tv and some do not. When I saw movie in CA in 1965, the song was intact. As the movie travelled across the country for exhibition, it was removed. By the time it was shown in FL, the song was missing. Guy Hemric (the songwiter) told me that when Deborah Walley was cast for Ski Party, she requested that he write the song for her. For some reason (probably on the strength of the song), Annette recorded it for Beach Blanket Bingo. BBB was filmed and released immediately before Ski Party. Some of you see the BBB movie print meant for the original west coast exhibition and some of you see a print meant for the east coast exhibition.
