the book

I'm an aspiring children's writer (aspiring to be published that is, as I consider myself a writer since I write every single day), and after seeing this movie I felt compelled to work harder at doing right by my audience. There's so much junk fiction out there for kids and teens right now. I also went to Amazon and immediately bought the book by Nora Johnson.

The book is a real gem, though a bit different than the film. I don't know if it was meant to be for teenagers (it's written more like a memoir), but much like Dodie Smith's 'I Capture the Castle', it depicts the experience of being a teenager far better than most current "young adult" fiction. It really should be more widely available.

You will get a lot of explanation if you read two of Nora Johnson's other books, Flashback:Nora Johnson on Nunnally Johnson, and, Coast to Coast: A Family Romance. The first book explains quite a bit about Henry Orient, but the second is the superior book as it explains in better detail about Nora Johnson's own experience growing up.

Oh neat. Thanks! I don't know much about the author at all. My public library has both of those books, but oddly, not The World of Henry Orient.
