Any body read/seen the original play?

I believe that "A Shot in the Dark" is by quite a stretch the funniest and best of the Inspector Clouseau/Pink Panther films, yet I find in somewhat ironic that it was never meant to be a Clouseau movie and was only done to be a situation "fix". Given that has anybody ever read or seen Harry Kurnitz's original play? How does it compare? Is it just as funny/less so?

i've never seen the play, but from what i've heard, the movie bears little-to-no resemblence to the play... Blake Edwards essentially dropped almost everything from the play when he rewrote the story around Clouseau...

that said, i'd still be interested in seeing the original play - if nothing else (like you), just out of curiosity...

I have a copy of the play script and I started to read it. It was very boring; I never got past the first few pages. (William Shatner, Gene Saks, Julie Harris and Walter Matthau was all in it.) The whole play takes place in 'The Chamber of an examining magistrate. I will try again though because I couldn't get into Capote's In Cold Blood the first time I tried and now it's one of my favorite books.

I will keep y'all posted when I pick it up again.
