I heard that there is an original opening that is very frightening where a man running through the tall grass gets his head cut off. Supposedly this caused a heart attack when released in 1964 (either in Montreal or New York). Has anyone ever seen or heard of this now lost opening to the film?

No, I don't think the writer did. Since the writer is asking 'can it be viewed' I think they are looking to track down a copy with the supposed 'original' opening. It sounds like an urban myth to me - especially the part about it 'causing heart attacks'.
