Question about events in film/play

I've never seen the play so maybe it would help me understand something...
In the film after Eliza leaves in the middle of the night, Higgins and Mrs Pierce talk about how Eliza would know where everything is. It sounds as if she has become like an assistant or secretary to Higgins. But there is no proof of this in the film. I'm wondering if during the 3 months between the race and the ball she took on this role. The film seems to leave this out. Does the play give more insight?

Your question is interesting and is something that I caught the first time I saw it. I think what they are trying to show is how valuable Eliza had become to the two men. The flaw is that we never actually see any of this so the line rings false. I'm a fan of the film "Pygmalion" with Leslie Howard and Wendy Hiller (much, much better than this movie) and I don't recall that line.
