If a supposedly sophisticated man in his thirties had been a Beatles fan in 1964 I would question his taste. Four youths with odd haircuts wailing about teen love while mobs of little girls hysterically wet their knickers is hardly grownup fare.

But yes, I like the Beatles.

That line truly doesn't age well.

Simple... it was the product of writers and producers in their 30s and 40s trying to drop a hip cultural reference, but doing it from the mindset of a 30 or 40 year old (i.e. clumsily and condescendingly... LOL)

In the 80’s Bond was a huge fan of Shakin' Stevens…and still is!

In 1964 The Beatles were the latest boy band fad. They had published their first album only the previous year. Their music back then was easy, catchy, in the pop-rock style of the Everly Brothers and Buddy Holly. Their fans at that time were youngsters, not grown adults. Sean Connery's 1964 Bond not being a fan of the Beatles is the equivalent of Daniel Craig's Bond not being a fan of One Direction.

thing is .. why would a double-oh agent be a fan of some pop band?

he was probably listening to sophistimacated jazz and classical fusion sounds.
