R1 DVD expected in '08

THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE is supposed to be released sometime in 2008. The Weinstein Group has the rights to four of Samuel Bronston's epics and EL CID is the first coming out, 1/29/08.

55 DAYS AT PEKING, CIRCUS WORLD are the other two. But except for CID nothing definite as of this last day of 2007.

We shall see....

It's about bloody time (to use a popular expression). It's only been 44-48 years since these films were first released. They would look absolutely magnificent in blueray/HDD format dvd's. Let's hope the release (especially of El Cid & Fall) has the extras that are included in the most recent french dvd release. Let's also hope that the Weinstein Company enhances the prints involved and doesn't release z grade tv prints onto dvd as NBC-Universal have done in Great Britain.

They probably won't include the French discussion of the film, but they should include "Rome in Madrid", the theatrical trailer and the TV trailers. I have the latter on my desktop if anyone is interested.

Amazon has announced it as being out in April of this year. You can sign up to be notified when it is ready to preorder.
It's about time. A good sign is that they are following up the El Cid release so quickly with this; indicated that the El Cid presales are pretty good.

The EL CID pre-sales are good, but the remaining Bronston titles seem to be on a regular release schedule for this year, irrespective of the sales figures.
