Late answer -- this is what I can make out:
[Lucillla standing on the top of the steps above the Forum Romanum]
Gods of Rome, join my side!
The lights of the world have gone out.
People of Rome! People of Rome!
Quickly! run to your neighbours, tell them that our city [?] is full of thieves, they have robbed us of our most precious treasure, our pride, our glory, our wisdom, our honour.
People of Rome! Cry out! [plus something ending with the air, despair? that I cannot make out!]
They do not see, they do not hear, only the jackals who are waiting in the darkness know, only the vultures who are wheeling in the black sky know.
Mourn! Mourn for the land that is no more.
Oh, Livius lives! Give me your hand Livius! Out of all we have fought for, out of all our dreams, we have each other. We have each other.
[and she mounts the pyre Livius is chained to]

THANKS FOR THE INFO - I NEVER COULD UNDERSTAND ALL OF WHAT SHE SAID.
Did you know the movie is scheduled for a sp ed release in the US this year??
Well, I couldn't catch it all either, as you saw. But you get a sense of her despair all the same.
(have you changed your id on this site since you wrote your question?)
Concerning the US releases, I live in Sweden and haven't a clue, but shouldn't Amazon, or the film distributor have some kind of info on their websites?
On another thread here cut scenes were mentioned and that they were lost forever, but perhaps, as Omar Sharif, Sophia Loren and Christopher Plummer (perhaps more) are still alive, a DVD could be completed with interviews, commentaries etc. That would be interesting!

no I am not the person who started the thread - just a fan of FOTRE.
the US dvd will have commentary, plus documentaries - don't think any actors participated unfortunately.
a search was made for lost scenes but none were found - they believe 20-30 minutes are missing
Philip
I will look out for that DVD. But what a pity that so much was lost at the time!
Elisabet
I think it begins as "Gods of Rome, your empire has died!" And somewhere in the middle is "People of Rome! Cry out! Death is at near!"
