Soldiers are Army personnel, not Navy. The Navy has sailors and marines, no soldiers.

reply

True but marines are sort of the Navy's soldiers.

It's about being as precise as possible. Address a Marine as "soldier" and you'll be corrected by that Marine instantly, and hopefully without violence. Marines look at it this way: Calling a Marine a soldier is like calling a werewolf a poodle (and I'm sure a soldier would have an interesting response to that). Let the fights begin!

The Army has Soldiers.
The Navy has Sailors.
The Air Force has Airmen.
The Coast Guard has Coast Guardsmen.
The Marine Corps has Marines.

The Few. The Proud. The Marines.

(And they MEAN it.)

Well, then - why don't you go to a bar near Camp Lejeune and address a Marine as a "soldier"? Then we'll see if it's "bull" or not.

reply

Unreal first off I'm in NYC so I'm no where near Camp Lejeune, and I know better 2nd I said its a load of bull because if you look back Marines have been called
soldiers in the past.

That doesn't mean they don't object to being called "soldiers" NOW. I'm not saying I fully understand it; I'm just reporting a simple fact. I've known more than a few Marines in my life, and one thing is certain: They don't appreciate being called "soldiers."

If you can't make it to Camp Lejeune, then just visit some of the Marine Corps message boards online; you'll see how they feel about being called "soldiers."

Even on non-Marine message boards, you'll get the same response -

I already said something about that, give it a rest already.

Well, you're the one who said it was "bull." And I think it should be evident by now that what I wrote wasn't "bull."
