I've ridden in a hearse!

The episode "Dance With Me, Herman" aired here recently and it opens with Herman getting dropped off at home by a hearse. That scene made me think of the time that I got to ride in one: I had a friend who was working at a funeral home and I was talking to him on my way to work. It was getting late and I needed a ride to my job. His boss was going to give me a ride, but his car wouldn't start. That left only one other vehicle: the you-know-what! Before I got in, I just had one question: "We're all sitting up front, right?" Well, if nothing else, I made it on time!

Yippee: "For king!"
Yappee: "For country!"
Yahooie: "And, most of all, for 10¢ an hour!"

Me too, and I've sat in the back alongside the body! Once I found a man dead on the toilet in an upstairs flat, and when the undertakers came, one of them was a girl who was getting married the next day. She had had her nails done so asked if I wouldn't mind carrying the body downstairs for her! We loaded it into a bodybag and the other undertaker and I carried it downstairs. Then those two sat up front and I accompanied his lateness to the mortuary!

Sorry about the delay man, I've been away for a long time (not in jail!)

He was an oldish guy who'd had a heart attack - the act of straining on the jacks had actually brought on the heart attack, they reckoned! I think it's quite common (isn't that what happened to Elvis?)

Elvis also had a lot of drugs in his system and was extremely overweight. I think those contributed to his death as well.

I went to school with a girl whose family bought a used hearse for their family car. They painted it tourquoise.

hearses still around i've never been in one nor have i seen one in person i live in Aurora, IL btw...
