Gilligan's Maynard G Krebs reference

Haven't read about it before, and I just noticed it after all these years.

In 'Ring Around Gilligan', Skipper accuses Gilligan of loading up their hut with all the coconuts. He replies "Skipper, I didn't do it. I don't like work. In fact, I hate work. I'm pro lazy."

Bob Denver's previous sitcom character was a beatnik slacker who hated work, and would get upset at the very mention of the word.

I'm sure a lot of the sly references Mr Howell came up with were suggested by Jim Backus (likely even improvised), so perhaps Bob suggested the "work" line as a nod to 'The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis'.

It's a shame they never did an episode featuring Maynard G Krebs. There was a "Dobie" episode "Spaveville" where Maynard ended up stranded on an island...

That would have been cool. Seeing Bob with the goatee and the "groovy, man" attitude. Great contrast to the naive, child-like Gilligan 

And then there's the episode "The Pigeon" where Gilligan named the pigeon Walter which is what the "G" in Maynard G. Krebs stood for.

Jesus is the Son of God and my Lord and savior. Pretty cool.

Far better than the wanna be played by Casey Kasem starting in 1969, Shaggy.

the wished for Gilligan/Krebs cross over:
It couldn't ever've happened-UATV for Gilligan vs Fox TV for DG. Good idea...

"And that's SHOWBIZ--kid."-Roxie Hart.
PROFILE PIC:Courtney Thorne-Smith.
MAGIC=Sarah Silverman.

I always thought Thurston Howell III was the long lost relative of Chatsworth Osborne, Jr...

And in the Miss Castaway episode Mr. Howell references Tuesday Weld who was on Dobie Gillis.
