Gilligan was more turned on by...

Maryann, I refer to two episodes, first, Music Hath Charms, when he made the instrument for and she kissed him, he was obviously turned on, then the episode where his hair turned white, and he thought he was old, she was trying to make him feel young, and kissed him, he loved it, whereas how many times did he fall asleep when Ginger was trying to seduce him

reply

I always thought that Gilligan and Mary Ann would have made a cute couple.

reply

They should've gotten married on one of the reunion movies

reply

Food actually...

I ship them so hard. They were the two youngest castaways, the most excitable and starry eyed... check them out bopping in the back row when the Mosquitoes are on stage. In The Second Ginger Grant, Gilligan was the most concerned about her, and when she fell down at the end, he jumped out of his seat and up onto the stage without even touching the steps, while everyone else just sat there.

Dont forget that in Hair Today, Gone Tomorrow (the episode that you mentioned where his hair turns white) Mary Ann told him, "It's love.. I've known it from the first."

There are so many other times when you could see them working as a couple. I love them!

reply

You really hit the nail on the head there

reply

I ship them...and the term "ship"(pun) as well.

then there's Lovey and Mathmaker.

I don't know why but I always shipped Mary Ann and the Professor. I got mad anytime Ginger came anywhere near him.

I loved how the Professor supported Mary Ann in the island beauty contest and even tried to hurt Ginger's chance of winning.

Ginger and the Professor were the older, more sophisticated couple, while Gilligan and Mary Ann were the cute, young and innocent couple. Sherwood Schwartz paired them like this intentionally. I have to admit I don't understand the Mary Ann and Professor pairing at all. She said, "the Professor and I have nothing in common" in the Matchmaker. To me there's just no real evidence for this unlikely pairing. But each to their own.

reply

I always thought the Professor and Mary Ann would be a better couple than Gilligan and Mary Ann. Mary Ann needed more mature guy like the Professor, not a young, bumbling silly boy like Gilligan.

^^^^^^ this.

In "Beauty Is As Beauty Does," the Professor says:

"Gentlemen! I'm afraid that I must inject another opinion here! In addition to beauty of face and figure, there's a lady here who also has sweetness and warmth - they lady I would pick as most beautiful in the world - Mary Ann!"

And:

"I beg your pardon. When I said Mary Ann was the most beautiful in the world, that it exactly what I meant!"

Yet, 16 episodes later, in the "Postman Cometh," the Professor says:

"Now just a moment! I have never shown the slightest romantic interest in Mary Ann!"

Methinks the Professor doth protest too much.

reply

He said he never showed it, not that he didn't have any.

I always liked his line about Ginger and Mrs Howell would end up looking like dropouts from Boy's Town.

I think the writer's enjoyed pairing up The Professor and Ginger because they were such opposites when it came to displaying passion. You can see this in "Castaway Pictures Presents" and "The Postman Cometh" [when Ginger tries to teach him how to woo Mary Ann].

Apparently, Russell's favorite scene of the series was the dream sequence in "V is for Vitamins" when he's let out of the giant's dungeon. I wondered why he thought so much of his broad portrayal of the "old coot" and then I remembered that it's also the scene in which he gets to REALLY kiss Dawn Wells' character. I think Dawn even fans herself afterwards, but maybe she's just trying to wave away the "aroma" of the old coot.

Of course, his delivery of "Don't believe everything you hear, girly!" is pretty hilarious.

reply

In at least 3 scenes from parties the Professor and Mary Ann were paired as dancing partners, one time they seemed to be really looking lovingly into each other's eyes and chatting away while they danced.

Dawn and Russell weren't acting, joanna 

I am a firm shipper of Gilligan with Mary Ann, and the Professor with Ginger. Here's why I think the Professor and Ginger work as a couple.

He's always doing things for Ginger, even though he really doesn't have to, but he does.

He makes the rock garden for Ginger

He looks in the cave and acts like a mole to look for the Eye of the Idol. He doesn't believe in it, but he looks for it for her

In Gilligan's Mother-in-Law, Ginger thinks Gilligan is breathing through a plant in the lagoon. Professor doesn't believe it, but agrees to check for her

Their kisses. They are paired together in Castaways Pictures Presents, and that kiss is full of passion.

They also kiss in Erika Tiffany Smith to the Rescue, and Ginger teaches him how to court in The Postman Cometh, where he makes the comment that he's not romantically interested in Mary Ann.

In X Marks the Spot, she's feeling low, and says that maybe she should of been a nurse instead of an actress. He tells her that she does good by entertaining people, and that makes them happy.

He's always having her do stuff for him, like experiments, etc. She's always wearing her lab coat and glasses.

In Seer Gilligan, he's thinking 36-22-36.

At the end of the Matchmaker, Mrs. Howell wanted to pair them together.

As far as the Beauty Contest goes, the Professor probably picked Mary Ann because Gilligan didn't say anything. I think Mary Ann's prettier, too. But Skipper picked Ginger already. Thurston obviously would pick Lovey. The contest was more a competition between the guys than it was the girls.

In All About Eva, when he sees that Eva looks exactly like Ginger, he smiles brightly and declares, "Eva, you're beautiful!" Then later, he says he knew there was something peculiar. He knew that wasn't Ginger.

Oh, and don't forget Big Man on a Little Stick. The Professor and Ginger are paired to trick Duke, as are Gilligan and Mary Ann. Ginger, at one point, says, "Isn't he wonderful?" about the Professor.

Also in Gilligan, the Goddess, the Professor picks Ginger, because he thinks of her as a goddess.

Lots more.

This is something about the Gilligan/Mary Anne shippers that upsets those of us who ship Mary anne with the Professor.

you all take this too seriously and you get physically upset whenever someone disagrees with you.

just deal with it and move on.

reply

Oh, I don't care who people ship. I'm just saying who I ship and why is all.

reply

okay. thank you for accepting who others ship.

[it's unfortunate that I have to write that on this board]

I remember one other ep, it was in season 1 where that surfer guy Duke comes to the island and both Ginger and MaryAnn try to make him jealous so he will leave them alone, so Ginger picks the professor and MaryAnn picks Gilligin and MaryAnn sits on his lap, ohhh man was he lucky! Damn
