As long as there is TV, Gilligan will probably never go off the air
Just like shows like "Seinfeld" and "Friends", I think "Gilligan's Island" will always air in reruns as long as there is TV.

shareDepends. Most of GI's cast are dead and those left aren't about to do something controversial, so it will be on the air forever.
"Seinfeld" and "Friends" are a different matter, you never know the stupidity of Holllllywood people. Just a year ago, "The Cosby Show" would have been on that list, but now, unless it comes on a racist network like BET, you'll never see it again.
Only Dawn Wells (Mary Ann) and Tina Louise (Ginger) are still alive of the main cast and all of the guest stars on the island have passed on, with one exception being Kurt Russell as the Jungle Boy. Sad to say, but our fondest characters from the past as slowly fading away...
shareAs I said, Dawn and Louise aren't about to do anything that would turn people against the show.
If Bob Denver or Alan Hale had raped or murdered someone, the show would have been doomed from that day forward.
LOL Unfortunately, the older you get, the more of those people from the past will pass away... just a fact of life.
I thought GI would have been yanked from the air when Russell Johnson was identified as the Zodiac killer. Turns out it hasn't hurt the show at all.
Most of GI's cast are dead
Zsa Zsa is still with us
shareI think that hopefully, the reruns were what you referred to, and that this is what the other replies were referring to as they were mentioning dead or alive performers. Anyway, putting it on a service like Netflix, if THAT happens, would limit it, I hope for cable, but you know (Mary Ann like enthusiasm) there is already the Warner Home DVD.

MAGIC=Sarah Silverman.
My reference to the actors being dead on GI is a thought on how NOW, they can't cause controversy and the show will always be on.
As I said, "The Cosby Show" is damaged goods because of Cosby's sexual perversions and the only place you'll ever see it again is on a racist network like BET. And true to my prediction, it has been picked up by a racist network(sort of), Bounce.
I agree with your assessment of Netflix and it limiting it's showing. You saw the same with the evil Ted Turner, who bought thousands of films from a few defunct studios, and now , thousands of films will never be shown again. Ted Turner is to film as Adolf Hitler is to book burning.
I'm a dirty old man and I'm going to be one until I'm a dead old man
I still use Gilligan as a metaphor in school. kids still get the connection as they have seen the show.
A few years ago I was teaching second grade and we did a unit on nutrition and vitamins. as an end to the unit I showed them the V for Vitamins episode and the kids wet themselves from laughing so hard.
they completely lost it when mrs Howell jumped up on the table and twirled around!
Oh God. Fortune vomits on my eiderdown once more.
