A wonderfully dark film adaptation
The few critics who were short-sighted enough not to like this film complained that Orson Wells could have used a Hollywood studio for this movie.
Absurdities from critics never cease to amaze me, as this film couldn't have been better done or better acted. The relentlessly bleak tone, the endless labyrinth that that Joseph K. has to go through to try to find a way out of his ordeal with the state is wonderfully conveyed here.
Very few movies convey grim hopelessness in such an understated and powerful way, but "The Trial" pulls it off.
