End of movie plot hole - Spoiler

This entire post is spoilers, assume all replies will be spoilers. You been warned!

The Princess's plan was to lure the Phantom into stealing the Pink Panther diamond then steal it herself. The plan was on track to be successful, with the Lyttons convicted of the theft and the diamond missing so she can't be compelled to surrender it to her country's new government if the World Court rules against her.

Then she decided to frame Clouseau instead of the Lyttons. So the diamond is in the hands of an Italian court; it's no longer missing and the new government will get it if the court says so.

The frame switchup makes sense personally, but it's not so important to her that she would she would lose the diamond to do it.


Also, a secondary plot hole. Part of the frameup switch plan is to give the diamond to Mrs. Clouseau so she can plant it on her husband. Mrs. C. has just admitted to the Princess that she's a jewel thief. Obviously the most likely outcome of this plan is that Mrs. C. screws everyone and runs off with the diamond. It's implausible that the Princess would risk that outcome.
