A Powerful Film

I saw this film one morning when it played on Showtime and I loved it. The drama was very good, especially since it was based on a true story. It was kind of sad at times and it makes you think about how it would feel to be in that kind of situation. I am glad that I had the chance to see it since it is very hard to find.

It is a fantastic film, sadly underseen and underrated just like Frank Perry in general, especially his 60s films. How Perry wasn't able to parlay his achievements into at least a cult following is beyond me, it's just too bad his standard of work went down after he stopped directing Eleanor Perry's writing. His genius as a director is so evident in this, DAVID & LISA and THE SWIMMER (he had a hell of a lot more talent than cut and dry contemporaries like Sydney Pollock, who finished that one after he left the production) -- it's sad he's so obscure.
