Beginning in 1952, the "Bell and Lights" Air Raid Warning System,[4] developed by AT&T, was made available to provide automated transmission of an expanded set of alert signals: Red Alert (attack imminent) Yellow Alert (attack likely) White Alert (all-clear) Blue Alert (undefined)
You know, it's funny. I have NEVER has one of those Emergency Broadcast Systems messages...not after any hurricane, no blizzard, not even after Superstorm "Sandy". What's up with that? Why do we even HAVE EMS alerts if they're not going to be used, what would it take? I know it's required by law, but if we never going to have a situation when we'll need it, it should be discontinued.
I've heard them at least twice. Once when there was a severe thunderstorm warning with possible funnel cloud sighted, another time when there was a wildfire. They do seem to be sporadic at best.
