'...so that was KING Pelias!' (???)

One thing that has bothered me since childhood was really buying into that Jason was A) really that stupid/uncurious or B) fell victim to a very elaborate scheme to trick him set up before Pelias even encountered him.

I do love how all Pelias's dialog with Jason is carefully crafted to neither lie or reveal himself. However one has to wonder what he told Jason had his name ever been asked.

A strange "save" that the movie gives us is Jason's delivery when Hera tells him that she pulled Pelias into the water. He puts emphasis on the word "KING" which to me means that possible Pelias was just a common name back then and that he honestly believed Pelias was some random rich guy traveling around looking for him, whose name just happened to also be Pelias?

And no eyebrows were raised when Acastus was announced at the Greek games as being "Acastus of Thessaly", when Jason surely remembered encountering him at Pelias's camp (didn't he?). Was Jason so oblivious as to not connect the dots at all??

Highly curious.
