Granted,we have moved beyond the f\x of the early 60's,yet there is something more here still:

-the dynamation is and remains effective today perhaps because it has a "certain-soulishness"which films lack today(painstaking art & craft of a Ray Harryhausen)

-English actors do well in period pieces(they appear comfortable in silly costumes)

-the music of Bernie Herrmann is extraordinary & timeless

-the visuals of exotic locations appear authentic and "feel"right

-pacing is superb

-Medea played by a lovely Nancy Kovak & Hera by a fetching Honor Blackman(pre-Pussy Galore !)

-wonderful character actors:Nigel Green,Pat Troughton and L.Naismith

-etc(fill-in the blanks,dear reader....)

I was a youngster when this first came out. I thought it was great then and feel the same way now. Sure, some of the special effects are lame by today's standards, but it's still a lot of fun to watch. It would be fantastic to see more movies with the pacing this one has. My only gripe is that I would have liked to see Jason go back home and claim what was his.

Of course, after watching this extraordinary classic, a sequel is screaming to be let out of the bottle.

Alas, with Ray gone, it appears hopeless...

...but, one can wish nevertheless ~

yeah, really they did so well in this masterful flick.. just caught it on tv the other night and still love it so much, and the FX still hold magnificently up IMO.

The end leaves the possibility for a sequel wide open.. someone call Peter Jackson! he is the only guy i can think of that could pull this off properly.

I don't like CGI. I never have, unless there's a point to the artistry, as per TRON or some similar film.

It has been a notion of mine to wonder what Harryhausen's work would look like with some CGI highlights to smooth out the motion, but then it wouldn't be his pure work. So perhaps it's best left as a passing notion, and nothing more.

I love this film, and all his others. Legends, myths, lore, battling monsters, foiling or appeasing the gods, this is the stuff of heroes, their deeds, and the legacy we are left to marvel at in the form of a film when the likes of a Ray Harryhausen comes along.

And yeah, the pacing is excellent. I mean these films could have just had b-list talent and special effects, but the story moves. The scenes carry the story forward and keep your attention.

That's GOOD FILM MAKING. Wow.
