Tough call, but I think I'd go with The Hustler. There was a lot of tension in it, I liked that. Hud is a different film altogether, slower, simpler, almost introspective at times, the drama is self-contained. The only connection is Paul Newman's character, playing a fateful loser who hurt people around him.

I really like hud, but the hustler is just perfection, in my top 10 of all time.
