George C Scott is
hilarious in this
shareEither he or the President are my favorite characters. "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here this is the war room"
shareI agree, probably the best performance i've seen from him.
sharethe whole movie is a riot. great parody.
sharePresident Merkin Muffley: You're talking about mass murder, General, not war!
General "Buck" Turgidson: Mr. President, I'm not saying we wouldn't get our hair mussed. But I do say no more than ten to twenty million killed, tops. Uh, depending on the breaks.
AND:
General "Buck" Turgidson: If the pilot's good, see, I mean if he's reeeally sharp, he can barrel that baby in so low... oh you oughta see it sometime. It's a sight. A big plane like a '52... varrrooom! Its jet exhaust... frying chickens in the barnyard!
I knew people who could recite these speeches -- and others -- by heart.
Same with Slim Pickens speeches ("Well, boys, it looks like this is it...nu--kleer combat toe to toe with the Rooskies!"
Same with Peter Sellers as the President ("Well , Dimitri, General Ripper went...a little funny in the head. Just a little funny."
Hilarious movie. Scary as hell.
to think he was 37 years old when he made this film (i always felt he was more than 50)
shareGreat though Sellers is in his three roles, Scott gives the best performance in the movie.
