Cleopatra was Greek and Egyptians were not black, and even if..

1. Cleopatraa was Greek, and has a bust of her that was contemporary to her, and the bust is also Caucasian.
2. Even if cleopatra were to be Egyptian, most Egyptians were Mesopotamian (hence written language, hence latitudinal line etc)
3. The Egyptians that were black were Nubian, and from Ethiopian region, not sub-Saharan.
4. African Americans (the ones always shouting about their so-called Egyptian heritage) have no ties whatsoever to these black Nubians since none of the slaves came from Ethiopia, but rather from the sub-Saharan regions. That would be like a Filipino claiming heritage with the Qing dynasty since he is "Asian".

I'm black, which means I'm a sellout for saying this but here goes:

I don't really care what color the Egyptians, Hebrews, Hannibal or Jesus were or whether my ancestors ruled cities, "sprang from mudhuts" or "swung in trees."
People judge me based on my actions in my own life today, not my ancestors' actions in their lives. And yes, I have encountered ignorant people prejudging me while knowing nothing about me or my background, and shattered their stereotypical views.

My own opinion is that many African-Americans claim Egyptians as ancestors in order to boost both individual and collective self-esteem. If you want your kids to grow up respecting themselves and avoid negative, self-destructive behavior, you tell them about the greatness they come from, whether that greatness is historically accurate or just imagined.

Were there African kings and queens other than those in Egypt? I don't doubt it. Am I descended from any? Maybe. But so what if I am or not? That doesn't really define who I am today. Neither do people in my family with criminal records. I like to think I have enough self-respect to live an honorable life, regardless of who my ancestors were.

Sorry for the rant. Probably no one will see this anyway.

Agreed Ascott. Nicely put.

With regard to Cleopatra, I read once that it's possible that she was blond given her heritage.

Just to prove how ignorant these Afro-centric apes are. They protest when cleopatra is played by a white, when A) Egyptians were not black, and B) even if they were, cleopatra was Greek.

Yes, Cleopatra was Greek, granddaughter of Ptolemy, one of Alexander's high-ranking generals.

Egyptians weren’t white either

reply

Egyptians were Caucasians (white).

They were kangz

reply

I agree, however the portrayals of Ancient Egypt in art have been fairly racist.

It is believed that Cleopatra's ancestors (at least some of them) were descendants of one of the Macedonian generals who claimed Egypt after Alexander The Great died.

Now since the ancient Egyptians were big believers in incest to keep the royal bloodline pure, Cleopatra could of had blonde hair and blue eyes.
