shareIt's very spectacular and has great actors. It is very long at four hours, but it divides nicely down the middle at the intermission to be watched in two separate viewings. It's somewhat historically accurate in the broad strokes but many of the details need to be thought of as dramatic license or legends.

shareI have the deluxe set with the documentary "the making of" and it's more interesting than the movie. While I'm watching the movie, the documentary made a lot of sense. Mankiwiez, the director and writer, went through several edits of the movie. It was initially 6 hours then the studio had him cut it down to 3 hours, and then it was re-edited for 4 hours.
It becomes a bit confusing in the beginning about Cleopatra and her brother and where she's located -- at least to me.
It's a bit campy and too long, but enjoyable to watch. Besides, you can't go wrong when Martin Landau is in a movie.
Laugh while you can, Monkey Boy!
I am currently dying of the man flu - and an epic is always pleasant when dying of the man flu. I watched it in full last night and I recommend it.
