TV rights question

wHEN THE film finally made its way to tv in 1965 if I am not mistaken, what version did they show? The 4 hour roadshow version or the 3 hour general release version¡?

reply

Perhaps you could check in at your public library (or college/University library) the microfilm archives of THE NEW YORK TIMES. First read the book indexes (1966 edition, probably under 'C' for you-know-what or 'T' for Television) and locate the info on the broadcast. Reading the date and page numbers, find the microfilm that has that volume. Then check the microfilm and the TNYT's TV listings of that date (or maybe dig a little further on the TV listings of your local paper). If it appears the broadcast was a two-night broadcast each on two hours, it was probably the GR version (Remember, commercials). Anything more could be the RS version. Chances are the former.
